Does God Ordain Suffering?

Does the bible teach suffering and pain can be a good thing? Here's another way of asking, "Is suffering ever part of God's will for my life?" The answer may surprise you if you're not well-versed in the Scriptures, but the short answer is yes. So, why would a loving God will such a thing for humanity, or better yet, those who are His children? Long story short, pain and suffering can move us in life and especially closer to God. However, pain and suffering move others away from God.
