Pouring from an Empty Cup: A Safe Haven for the Weary Pastor

It's a Sunday morning, and you're standing behind the pulpit, giving the people in the congregation words of hope, grace, and restoration since they so badly need them. But on the inside? Perhaps you're running on empty. You bear the burdens of your congregation, the hospital visits, the failing marriages, the late-night crises, yet when your own soul is weighed down, then where do you go for help?

It's entirely possible for someone to be going through the quiet, lonely kind of distress that comes from ministry burnout, pastoral fatigue, or depression. Research indicates that "24% to 38% have seriously considered leaving ministry because of stress, isolation, and fatigue." [1, 2] The demands placed on those in ministry are continuous, and the expectation to "have it all together" means that it's very hard to ask for assistance.

"You cannot lead others to still waters if you are dying of thirst."

Introducing The Shepherd’s House

We at Christ-Centered Solutions believe that people who devote their lives to looking after the flock should have a place where they themselves are looked after, which is why we are now creating The Shepherd’s House.

The aim of The Shepherd’s House is to provide a faith-based retreat for long-term care, specifically designed for pastors experiencing burnout, exhaustion, depression, or a spiritual crisis. However, since CCS is not yet able to open the facility or achieve our long-term objectives, we intend to offer short-term assistance to pastors in need.

What will you find at the retreat?

From January 25th through January 30th, 2027, we are hosting a dedicated retreat and recovery week. This is not a church growth conference. There are no breakout sessions on administration, no networking events, and no expectations for you to perform. Instead, this week is entirely focused on holistic healing:

  • Biblical Soul Care: We will offer compassionate and confidential biblical counseling (available in one-on-one and group sessions) to help you work through your difficulties, heal your wounds, and find joy in the Lord once again.
  • A Week That is Slow and Simple: CCS will provide a beautiful, peaceful setting where you can rest, spend some time in nature, pray without interruption, and simply be. It is a week that is almost entirely free of digital devices.
  • Wholistic Rejuvenation: Dedicated time to restore your spirit, mind, and body, equipping you not just to survive ministry, but to live joyfully.

It’s Time to Let Someone Care for You

It is common for pastors to think that they are essential to the day-to-day running of their church. However, the best thing you can do for your congregation, your family, and yourself is to have a healthy and healed soul. Choosing to take a period of rest is not an indication of weakness; it is a deep expression of wisdom and faith.

Take the First Step Toward Healing

If you are weary, heavy-laden, and in need of true rest, we invite you to join us at The Shepherd's House Retreat this coming January 25-30, 2027. Space is limited to ensure personalized, confidential care.
